24 Hours

SPECS:
This will be a black and white film with intertitles. Some scenes will need to be shot from a chest camera harness. Although the film is silent, we will be using modern technology, such as camera harnesses, crane shots and musical underscore as well as synchronized sound effects.

CHARACTERS:
Reese: 22 year old female. Any nationality. Student. Two separate actresses should play her. They should look generally similar, Reese 1 will be a normal slightly chubby 22 year old, and Reese 2 will be a more exotic looking beauty.
Matt: 24 year old male. Any nationality. Actor. Must be able to play the guitar and sing, although we will not hear any of the product of this. When shot through Reese’s eyes, he should look handsome and put together, however other times he should seem scruffy, slightly drug-addcted, and as though he’s been wearing the same clothes for the last week.
Ted: 24 year old male. Any nationality. Should be a big burly type.
Brad: 24 year old male. Any nationality. Should be a version of the frat boy type, although not necessarily a pretty boy.
Old Man: in his 70’s. Both “caddyshack” and Mr. Hyde
Stereotypes: *All stereotypes should be exaggerated in costume and acting.*
– Young Partygoers, White trash,.

SETTING:
Scene One: The inside of Reese’s apartment. Should look stylish and clean when filmed from the camera harness and the shots will remain un-tinted, but grimy and older when filmed from an outside camera, which will be tinted a slight yellow color to enhance this feeling.
Scene Two: Tinted a grey blue. It should not be a bright blue in any way. The inside of Matt’s car. The surrounding landscape should be barely visible unless looking out the window. When shots show either Matt or Reese looking out the window or the view of the road ahead, there should be bright stars in the sky and always be a large full moon.
Scene Three: The inside of car and outside in the desert. There should be no lighting effects or tints. Only the special effects that are specifically mentioned in the scene.
Scene Four: Las Vegas Strip. Overexposed light with no color tint.
Scene Five: Bare and realistic, extremely sharp camera shooting. The parking lot itself should be empty. The parking lot is littered with trash and stains. The ceiling should be lower than most parking lots, perhaps ten feet tall, but very wide. The place where Reese and Matt sit should have pips and ledges on it, however where Matt sits there is enough room for him, where as where Reese sits, there are pipes in her back and very little room.
Scene Six: Each shot should showcase a different larger than life building. The passerbys on the street should all be specific stereotypes, but exaggerated to the extreme. Every shot should be tinted a different color, including no tint.
Scene Seven: Same as Scene Three with no tint.
*** Each intertitle page should be displayed for 5 seconds. ***

Scene 1

Shot from the chest harness until otherwise stated.
OPEN: tight frame of Matt’s face, through the eyes of someone laying down. Matt stands over the camera, slightly scruffy and red-eyed. Slowly looking at his face begins to be like looking at a face within a fishbowl, the effect moves around his face.
(BEAT) Then seen saying his line.
CUT TO: Intertitle (See Example 1) –
“MATT: Let’s go to Vegas.”

Sound Cue #1: Woman’s laughter in background, not necessarily Reese’s laughter. It should be slightly manic.
CUT TO: Continuous shot of all three guys in Reese’s living room. The shot moves from left to right starting with Brad, then Ted and then Matt. Both Brad and Matt speak their lines on camera, but Ted is silent where Reese’s line inserts.
It is a modern living room, with white walls and light brown carpet. The couch is old and the general feeling of the apartment is grimy. There is no trash anywhere but it doesn’t look stylish or spotless. The boys stand in front of the breakfast bar which peers into the kitchen.
CUT TO: Intertitle (See Example 3)
“BRAD: Let’s go to Vegas.
REESE: He said no.
MATT: Let’s go to Vegas.”

CUT TO: Close up on Reese 1’s face once more. The camera stays in position, catching Reese as she backs into bedroom and closes the door.

“REESE: Let’s go to Vegas.”
CUT TO: Title Page with Sound Cue #4: Bell Rings Once .
“24 Hours”

Scene 2

Sound Cue #5: Underscore
CUT TO: Inside shot of the car driving down a long stretch of highway in the middle of the night. Camera is in the back seat focused on the road ahead. Headlights fill the space in front of them as two cars pass driving the opposite direction. The occasional bush or shrubbery should pass them on the right side but they are in the desert so the landscape is basically desolate.
The shot slowly pans up and changes source direction until it looks as though we are seeing it from the perspective of the passenger in the right backseat. The camera then focuses in on the rearview mirror where we see Matt’s eyes watching this passenger. He studies her.
CUT TO: A shot of Reese 2 from the driver’s seat as she looks back at the driver then turns her head to look out the window to her right. The camera switches source direction again with a pan to Reese’s lower body where Ted has slowly crept his hand up her leg and begins to stroke her leg. Reese’s hand moves Ted’s away.
CUT TO: Shot of Matt’s eyes in the rearview mirror, from the backseat.
CUT TO: Reese looking out her window, from the driver’s seat.

Scene 3

CUT TO: Time has passed. Inside shot of the road ahead driving down the same long stretch of highway from the backseat. The sun is just starting to rise and specks of rose along the horizon are appearing. In the front seat Matt rubs his eyes, and Brad has fallen asleep in the front passenger seat.
CUT TO: Camera shot from the front seat to the back; Reese 1 and Ted have fallen asleep in the backseat, Reese against the window and Ted lying on top of her.
CUT TO: Outside shot of the car as it pulls over on the side of the road. There seems to be some sort of resting area here although there are no bathrooms or facilities. The remains of a house stand off in the distance.
CUT TO: Shot of backseat from the front; Reese 1 and Ted slowly waking up as the car stops.
CUT TO: Matt getting out of the car and greeting the morning.
CUT TO: Brad getting out of the car and greeting the morning.
CUT TO: Ted getting out of the car and greeting the morning.
CUT TO: Reese 1 getting out of the car and greeting the morning, and Sound Cue #6: Three Car Door Slams over Sound Cue #5 as underscore continues.
BLACKOUT.
Sound Cue #7: Fourth Car Door Slam in the blackout.
CUT TO: Shot from higher angle, of the group as they stretch and wander out side the car.
CUT TO: Brad goes off to the ruins of the building, and takes piss behind one of the half walls.
CUT TO: Reese 2 staring at the sunset. Behind her Matt nudges Ted toward the sunset. They join Reese on either side, the sun rising into their faces.
CUT TO: The backs of the four as Brad joins them. We see their silhouettes against the sunrise. Although we can still see the sunrise, there should also be visible the stars still and the bright full moon above the sunrise. It should look as if someone painted the sunrise and the sky in front of them after it was filmed. This can be in color. The painting should change and move as the sun rises higher in the sky.

Scene 4

Sound Cue #8: Underscore
The sun blares into the frame as we see Las Vegas. We are looking down the strip at an utterly deserted Las Vegas, nothing like the expected busy, night Las Vegas that we are used to. The shots are brighter white than is normal, as we see the heat and light of early morning.
CUT TO: Crane pan shot of the four standing in a circle facing out. We circle them counter-clockwise, as they stare astonished at what they see. (Reese 1)
CUT TO: An old man, hunched over his cane, starting the shot at a high angle and lowering to a ground shot as the man passes by. This shot should be filmed twice: the first time with a normal old man hunched over his cane and the second with that man having undergone a serious transformation. He should have warts on his face, be wearing a black cape and his cane should have become crooked. He smiles manically. The shot should flicker back and forth between these two images. The light intensity is vastly difference between these two shots, as the bright white of normalcy and the darker image of the foreboding man.
CUT TO: The group stagers away from the old man, stumbling through the heat and light unsure of where they are doing or where they are going. The group gets dizzier until one by one, they all fall down on the pavement.
CUT TO: A close up of Matt’s face as it hits the pavement.
CUT TO: A close up of Ted’s face as it hits the pavement.
CUT TO: A close up of Brad’s face as it hits the pavement.
CUT TO: A close up of Reese 1’s face as it hits the pavement.

Scene 5

Sound Cue #9: Silence
CUT TO: Shot of car from 35 degree angle parked in parking garage. The garage is empty except for them, and inside the car, Ted and Brad sleep.
CUT TO: Shot of Matt and Reese 2 sitting on a long cement part of the garage foundation from ten feet away. Matt sits playing his guitar and Reese plays with her hair, looking for split ends.
CUT TO: Close up of Reese 1 as she looks at Matt. She opens her mouth to say something, but then closes it again.
CUT TO: Matt jamming on his guitar with energy.
CUT TO: Mid shot on Reese 2, as she plays with her hair again.
CUT TO: Shot from ten feet away, as Matt plays his guitar and Reese 2 stares off into the distance. During the next two minutes, Reese gets progressively antsier.
CUT TO: Reese 1 on her knees next to Matt, facing him and staring into his face while he plays.
CUT BACK: to previous shot.

CUT TO: Shot of Reese 1’s face as she says her line.
CUT TO: Intertitle (See Example 2)
“REESE: So…”
CUT TO: Shot of Matt’s face from the same angle – front.
CUT TO: Shot of Reese 1’s face as she says her line from the front. She looks at Matt.

“MATT: Yeah.”
CUT TO: Shot of Matt and Reese 2 from ten feet away. Matt plays his guitar. Reese stares into the distance.

Scene 6

Sound Cue #10: Underscore for crazy Vegas Night Life
CUT TO: Vegas at night like we are used to seeing. The buildings are lit up with a thousand lights and hundreds of people crowd down the strip. The four crash down the street in a drunken haze. Many cut in shots of blurry lights, and people. The following cuts should be quick paced and should go back and forth. They may even repeat as time disappears. (Reese 2)
CUT TO: 5 Prostitutes in a line, working hard to sell their wares to the passerby
CUT TO: Christian family tightly huddles and horrified.
CUT TO: Cowboys, drawing their pistols and rope swinging.
CUT TO: Pimp in full on pimp outfit with cane and cup with scantily dressed women on his arm.
CUT TO: Swindlers playing street games and holding open their long overcoats to expose stolen goods.

CUT TO: Homeless and Prophets for the end of the world.
CUT TO: A group of young party-goers overly drunk
CUT TO: A group dressed as white trash (Big hair, daisy dukes, lots of make up)
CUT TO: Brad falls on the street and is almost trampled by the crowd but the other three help him to his feet quickly, as they never stop laughing.
CUT TO: The inside of “The Wynn” hotel and casino. Still consisting of many blurred and quick cut shots, we see each try their hand at gambling. Reese is at a Blackjack table. Brad plays Poker. Ted is at craps and Matt is at the slot machines. Everyone wins the first couple of rounds, but Matt is the only one who comes back with money.
CUT TO: Still inside “The Wynn” casino, the four stand in a circle, drinks in hand as the camera pans quickly from the middle counterclockwise. All four have drinks in their hands and are smiling.

CUT TO: Shot of backseat from the front center. Ted is fast asleep leaning against his car door. Matt stares out his window.
CUT TO: Outside shot of the car from the back, and a slow fade away from the car as it drives away. The moon seems to follow the friends out of the shot.
Credits roll over the car driving away and the shot continues to stare off into the distance long after both the car and moon are out of sight.

BLACKOUT.
